Keep or Return? The Amazon returns game

Every year millions of Amazon orders get sent back. Some were broken. A lot of them were not. Keep or Return? puts real items from Amazon returns truckloads in front of you, one at a time. You decide: would you have kept it, or sent it back? Then you see how the rest of Canada voted and what that exact item actually sold for at our auction.

How to play

  1. Look at the item and its Amazon list price.
  2. Tap Keep or Return (or swipe right or left).
  3. See the verdict from everyone who judged it before you, and the price it went for at auction.
  4. After 10 verdicts you get your Returner Type. Share it and see if your friends are more ruthless than you.

This week's Regret Report

The first Regret Report publishes once enough items have at least 8 verdicts each. Every vote you cast above counts toward it, and the report is rebuilt every Monday.

Where do Amazon returns go?

When you send something back to Amazon it is inspected and sorted. Items in as-new condition can be restocked. Items with opened packaging or cosmetic wear may be resold by Amazon as used. A large share is sold in bulk to liquidators by the pallet or by the truckload, and that is the route every item in this game took. Some items are donated or recycled.

At AmazeDeals, those truckloads arrive at our warehouse in Kitchener, Ontario. Every item is unpacked, photographed and condition-graded, then listed as its own lot in a weekly online auction where you set the price. If you would rather buy by the box, we also sell mystery boxes, and resellers can read our guides to Amazon returns in Canada and Amazon return pallets.

Frequently asked questions

Does tapping Keep or Return affect my AmazeDeals order?

No. Keep or Return? is just a game about items that already sold. Tapping Keep or Return does not return, refund or change any order. If you have a question about something you bought from AmazeDeals, please contact us through our contact page.

What happens to Amazon returns in Canada?

Amazon inspects returned items. Some go back on the shelf or are resold by Amazon itself. Many others are sold in bulk, by the pallet or the truckload, to liquidators. We are one of them: every item in this game came to our Kitchener, Ontario warehouse on an Amazon returns truckload, was photographed and catalogued, and then sold at one of our weekly online auctions.

Is every item in the game really a customer return?

Most are customer returns. Returns truckloads also carry overstock and shelf-pulls, so some items were never opened. That is why we say "off an Amazon returns truckload" rather than claiming each one was sent back by a customer.

What does "went for" mean?

It is the closing bid on that exact lot at an AmazeDeals auction, before buyer's premium and HST. The Amazon list price is the Amazon.ca price recorded for the same item when we catalogued it. It is shown for comparison only and is not a former AmazeDeals price.

Can I buy the items I see here?

The items in the game have already sold. New lots from new truckloads go up every week, and you set the price by bidding. See the upcoming auction schedule on our auctions page.

How does the Regret Report work?

Every verdict in the game is counted. Once an item has at least 8 verdicts, it can appear in the weekly Regret Report: the returns Canada says should never have gone back, the ones everyone agrees were fair, and the items that split the country down the middle.

Why do people return things that work fine?

Common reasons include ordering the wrong size or model, changing their mind, buying duplicates or gifts they did not need, and items arriving after they were needed. A return is not proof that anything was wrong with the product, which is exactly what this game asks you to judge.
